Salutation was possibly the first image I shot that felt like it was more than just a photo of surfing. I appreciate it's ability for a broader perspective; was he saluting the wave, or was it a mocking attempt mimicking control over the water? It’s open to interpretation. This contrast identifies and illustrates humanities unending quest to control nature. The photo won the Surfing Australia / Nikon Surf photo of the year award for 2014, as well as being on the cover of the Passing Through Book and Great Ocean Quarterly.
