Salutation, 2013

Salutation can be seen as having a duality to the meaning behind the image; On one hand, it could be understood as a salute to the power and randomness of the ocean... On the other, a mocking attempt at some kind of manipulated sorcery. This contrast both identifies and illustrates humanities unending quest to control nature. This image later became the foundation for my “Maelstrom” series. The photo won the Surfing Australia / Nikon Surf photo of the year award for 2014, as well as being on the cover of the Passing Through Book and Great Ocean Quarterly.
